School Policies

Effective September 1, 2025
Please read the following information carefully, as it explains our policies on registration, attendance, payments, and absences along with general institutional policies and practices. On this page the word “you” refers to both adult students and the parents or guardians of minor children.

Your attendance at your first lesson, class, workshop, or camp is considered evidence of your agreement to adhere to these policies.

School Calendar and Enrollment

We divide the year into two 21-week Terms, Fall and Spring, plus a 10-week Summer Session. You may enroll at any time during the year; by registering at the start of a Term you are likely to have more flexibility in scheduling and greater choice of teachers.

During Fall Term, we provide 17 weeks of instruction. There are three vacation weeks, one Make-Up week, and four national holidays.

During Spring Term we provide 18 weeks of instruction. There are two vacation weeks, one Make-Up week, and one national holiday.

During Summer Session we provide 8 weeks of instruction. There is one vacation week, one Make-Up week, and one national holiday.

Private Lessons

New and Former Student Inquiries
You may inquire about private lessons online or by phone to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with a member of our faculty or staff. Please be prepared with your own calendar so that we can determine a day of the week and time of day for your lessons.

New and Former Student Registration
You may register online or by appointment.

Continuing Student Registration
We reserve your current lesson day and time up to two weeks before the start of a new Term. Please avoid disappointment by informing your teacher of your intention to continue prior to that date.

Registration Fees
Expect to pay an annual registration fee for yourself or your family.

Prepayment Discount
You may prepay in full for each Term at the time of registration by cash, check, or credit card and receive a discount of 5%.

Payment Plans
You may set up a monthly payment plan by storing a credit card in our secure system. We will charge your card automatically on the first day of each month for instruction provided in that month.

Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is available to all students. Please read this description of our aid program and complete this Financial Aid Survey prior to registration.

Attendance
Your teacher expects you to attend lessons regularly and practice at home between lessons. Consistent attendance and practice will make your musical progress smoother, more enjoyable, and rewarding.

Notification
If you are unable to attend a lesson, please text, call, or email your teacher as soon as possible so that they may use the time appropriately.

Student Absence
You are permitted a maximum of one absence every eight lessons during Fall and Spring Terms for which make-up credits are issued. You and your teacher will schedule a make-up lesson as soon as possible after a permitted absence. If you are unable to find a mutually convenient time, you may take the lesson during the dedicated Make-Up Week at the end of each term, after which any unused make-up credits expire.

Teacher Cancellation
If your teacher cancels a lesson, they will make a good faith effort to reschedule the missed lesson. If they are unable to do so, you may choose to have the lesson fee refunded or credited toward the next term.

Holiday and Make-Up Weeks
Some teachers make themselves available for additional lessons during holiday and/or make-up weeks. If this option interests you, please speak directly with your teacher.

Public Recitals
You are invited to perform in public near the close of Fall and Spring Terms. Participation is encouraged but not required. You may choose to perform as a soloist, in a duet with your teacher, or in collaboration with fellow students and/or other faculty members. Please discuss these opportunities with your teacher well in advance of each recital.

Substitute Teachers
If your teacher has a planned absence of two or more consecutive weeks, they may engage a substitute teacher.

Withdrawal
If you need to withdraw from lessons, please provide written notice to your teacher or a member of staff at least two weeks in advance.

Leave of Absence
If you have a legitimate scheduling conflict that will prevent you from maintaining regular attendance, please provide a written request to your teacher or a member of staff. Such requests are carefully considered but not guaranteed.
