If you are between the ages of 9 and 18 and already play a musical instrument, you are invited to join a special summer band camp led by local professional performers and master teachers.
If you’re used to playing in a self-led band – or if you’re new to playing with people other than your teacher – get ready for a great new experience where you’ll learn from the pros about how to choose songs, learn your parts, and come together to create a tight, focused group performance.
WHO SHOULD ENROLL
We welcome guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboardists, and vocalists between the ages of 9 and 18. We place participants in bands based on age and experience.
PROGRAM FORMAT
The workshop meets for one week, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Monday through Thursday, you’ll attend three learning/playing sessions plus breaks and lunch.
Friday, you’ll devote the morning to rehearsing and then give an early afternoon performance for each other and invited guests.
DAILY SESSIONS
At the first daily session, you’ll work and play together on one or more aspects of basic musicianship – rhythms, chords, harmonies, song forms, and more.
At your second daily session, your band will focus on learning and playing three songs which you’re assigned well in advance. You’ll learn how to put together a great show in a short preparation time. just like professional musicians do. You’ll be performing these songs on Friday.
At your third daily session, you’ll explore improvising solos, writing your own songs, and other paths of musical creativity.
PERFORMANCE
At week’s end, you’ll put your skills to work by delivering a polished performance in front of your fellow workshop participants and invited guests.
