Chamber Music information

Thanks for your interest in the chamber music program at MCMS! Before applying through the link below, please read the following information.

MCMS offers different types of opportunities to play classical chamber music in a small ensemble. We welcome players of all ages and varying skill levels. Most classical chamber music repertoire requires at least an intermediate level of skill on your instrument, and proficiency at reading music. Every effort will be made to find suitable repertoire and to place you in a group with other musicians appropriate to your level of playing experience.

The Wednesday evening offering is a chamber music class  where students will be formed into groups and coached on one specific piece of music during the whole course. Participants will perform their pieces in an informal recital at the end of the session.

The Sunday morning sessions are informal coached chamber classes.  Participants can come on Sundays when they are available, rather than committing to every week. Players will read and receive coaching on repertoire chosen for that day.  In subsequent weeks, different instrumental ensembles may be formed as players are available, with different choices of repertoire, or participants may continue previous repertoire if the same players are available.  Currently, there are no Sunday sessions scheduled for Fall 2023.

If you are interested in either of these courses, we need to know a little more information about your instrument (or instruments), level of playing ability/years of study, chamber music experience if any, and repertoire you have performed.  We cannot guarantee that everyone can be accepted, due to lack of (or too many) players of specific instruments, lack of suitable repertoire, or incompatible levels of playing experience.  To apply, click HERE
