JOIN THE FACULTY

Collaborate with friendly, experienced colleagues. Our faculty members are dedicated music professionals who enjoy teaching and performing locally.

Work in peaceful, pleasant surroundings. Our studios are roomy and comfortable. Most have natural light and operable windows. There’s also a small kitchen, onsite parking, and plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants within a few blocks.

Enjoy a stream of new student referrals. Because MCMS actively markets itself both digitally and through analog channels, you won’t need to do promotions or travel to see students in their homes. The school also handles billing and payment processing.

Set your own schedule. As an independent contractor, you’ll have an account with the online studio management app My Music Staff. You’ll manage your own time and activities and have exclusive use of a studio for a pre-determined block of hours on the day(s) you teach.

Leverage your space. If you have open teaching slots, you can use them to teach students who you bring directly into the studio. Just charge your going rate and pay the school a modest rental fee for the time. You can also use your studio to practice or do other work.

Serve the community. As a non-profit, public benefit corporation, MCMS is led by a volunteer Board of Trustees whose mission is to serve the public. They do that by supporting you.

Earn a respectable hourly fee. MCMS charges market rates to students who can afford them and subsidizes others who cannot. You retain 60% of the market rate. The rest pays for overhead, marketing, staff, and scholarships.

Give your students opportunities to play in ensembles and perform. Aspiring musicians are interested in more than lessons and practicing. Provide them with a community in which to find playing partners and participate in recitals, workshops, jams, and more.

Be proactive. If you like to teach small groups, hold workshops, lead jams, or offer other collaborative events, you can incubate new programs independently by renting studio time. (If your new program becomes well-established, you’ll then be asked to incorporate it into the school’s offerings and share more equitably in the proceeds.)

Get involved. If you have the time and inclination, you can apply to serve on the Board of Trustees, giving you the chance to set policies and priorities and help oversee the operations of the school.
